Just did my push-up Benchmark. I find it a bit of a scary challenge as I’m so out of shape and have gotten so big. I’m going to trust that it’s possible to keep up with the exercises as ultimately the challenge is to work towards managing a push-up! Not going to get there without putting in the work. So alongside aiming for that push-up, the bigger challenge will actually be sticking with it.
Also started the snack attack today. I am committing to taking pictures of all my snacks and posting them here. I hate having to register, as I know I binge at times. During bad times even daily. And not just like a cookie here or there… No, a huge (by Dutch standards) bag of chips or an entire tub of ice cream with whipped cream… Please, can someone let me know I’m not the only one? DM is fine if you don’t feel like putting yourself out there
The above is going outside of my comfort zone, but I’d like to give you an example that really contributed to me getting where I am today. About 10 years ago, I got a manager who pretty much changed my life. That sounds dramatic, I know, especially since from his point of view he didn’t do much other than making time for me. I approached him at some point as I wanted to become a manager myself and wanted to know how to go about that. Looking back, I think he didn’t take me seriously at first and must have been approached by others from the team with the same question. He was as about to go on holiday and he gave me some job involving the Dutch part of the team. I don’t quite remember what the job was, only that I didn’t manage to get it done as the others went like: you’re not our boss and he hasn’t told us anything about having to listen to you. Long story short: I had to feed up that I hadn’t managed and wanted to know how I could have done it. I have no idea what exactly made it click, but it clicked on his side that I was absolutely serious and willing to out in the work. From that moment on, he started coaching me and out my name out there. I became a mentor within a year and three months after that I was a team lead! And even after that he kept helping me!
